‘If you like it, don’t tell us, tell your friends!’

'I felt the paradox of being ‘deep’ whilst being aware
of the ‘surface’ at one and the same time’.

Before starting out, make sure you won’t have to answer the call of nature for a little while. To put it bluntly, make sure your bladder and bowels are empty! As and where possible, try and have the lights low, and be in a safe, warm and secure place. Don’t try and consciously ‘just empty your mind’. It’s not as simple as some seem to think. Just let the thoughts come and go, come and go. Allow your mind to drift. Do your utmost, when necessary, to keep negative and “naughty” thoughts OUT! Have that small clock close to hand. Note the time when you go ‘in’ (close your eyes), and the time you come ‘out’ (open your eyes). Each time you go ‘in’/come ‘out’, precede it with a slow, deep in-take of breath, “through” the stomach, then breath out slowly as you close/open your eyes.
